Energy Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the study of body mechanics and movement. Energy Kinesiology is an integrative branch used throughout the world to improve learning ability, creativity, and mind-body coordination, as well as relieve emotional stress, trauma, physical pains and most ailments.

Energy Kinesiology (EK) combines physiological reflex systems from western science (neurolymphatic and neurovasculars, the nervous system, muscular and connective tissue systems) with the energetic system from Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Chinese meridian system maps the flow of energy and specific points which, when stimulated, are a catalyst for healing. EK is a convergence of these systems which addresses the many dimensions of health and wellbeing.

Where Western medicine seeks one treatment for all people with a particular condition, the approach of Eastern health addresses the individual - so that for ten different people with the same condition, there might be ten different paths to wellness. Similarly, Energy Kinesiology is a holistic model of wellness that balances the subtle energies of your being to bring you to a state of optimal health.

Muscle testing reveals the physical integrity of specific muscles, to determine whether that muscle is working properly or not. The original technique was developed in the early 20th century, as a diagnostic tool for neurological problems like stroke and spinal injury. Kinesiologists use it to find the 'stress' behind a problem and identify ways to restore balance on multiple levels. The muscle monitoring of Energy Kinesiology is bio-feedback, a system of communication. Your body communicates energy imbalances, the cause of the imbalance and the preferred method of balance. Thus, muscle monitoring provides an interface between neurological function and the more subtle energies of the energetic, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, uncovering both neurological and organic damage. From there, the practitioner draws on their own toolbox of training and experience to facilitate and support your body's natural tendency toward health and well being.

The efficacy of kinesiology has been and continues to be proven through empirical scientific study as well as in the anecdotal reports of thousands of people who have benefited from the work.

  • harmony within your physical body can be improved for better posture and function, increased flexibility, and relief from pain and chronic muscular tension

  • integration of the brain can be measured and addressed, with improvement in learning dysfunctions present since birth or childhood and function after stroke or accident

  • mind and heart are balanced, helping you manage life's challenges

  • muscle testing can monitor the effectiveness of herbs and supplements, as well as indicate intolerances and allergies

History of Energy Kinesiology

In the early 20th century, muscle testing was developed by physicians (Kendall and Kendall) for diagnostics of neurological problems like stroke and spinal injury. In 1964, a chiropractor named Dr.  George Goodheart studied systems outside of the chiropractic model to explore ways to further support his clients. He studied the muscle testing along with Neurovascular Points developed by Dr. Terence Bennett in the 1930s; Neurolymphatic Points developed by Dr. Frank Chapman in the 1930s; and the Chinese system of chi, meridians, fields and points. He found direct links among these approaches to healing. For a decade, he and his associates - mostly fellow chiropractors - experimented with this new approach and developed a system called Applied Kinesiology.

One of the group, Dr. Beardall, studied ancient Mudras; gestures of the hands and fingers that sometimes involve the direction of the glance and pattern of breathing. They are found throughout human history, in Asia and throughout the world and are prevalent in religious and spiritual practices. They invoke a certain state of mind, spiritual state, and physical awareness. You might think of mudras like the notes of a scale - combinations create certain chords and harmonies - or like tuning into a specific radio station. Mudras have influence like colors - yellow brightens, red stimulates, green and blue are calming. From this study came the first use of finger modalities to 'tune in' to specific aspects of the muscle's response - aspects related to the physical, chemical, emotional and energetic dimensions of your being.

  • Touch for Health, Developer: Dr. John Thei
While this new approach was limited to use by chiropractors, Dr. Thei synthesized the information into a simple protocol which could be learned and used by lay persons as a preventative self-care tool to help themselves, their family and friends. In the early 70s, Touch for Health was born. Today there are over 5,000 instructors around the world teaching people how to use Touch for Health to help people have a healthier, more balanced life.

Branches of Kinesiology

At this point the field exploded as a number of branches were developed and launched, each having their roots in Touch for Health and Dr. Goodheart's original findings. The differences are as varied as there are systems. Each system has a particular approach to healing with Energy Kinesiology and most systems have a direct focus of work, a specific intention. Some are described below:

  • Applied Physiology, Developed by Richard Utt

Applied Physiology is an extensively developed line of systems. Richard's combined expertise in electrical technology and computer science, and his extensive studies of nutrition, herbs, kinesiology, anatomy, physiology, Chinese medicine and acupuncture and Touch for Health produced entirely new thinking. Richard understood the electromagnetic nature of the body in new ways - and thoroughly tested his theories before bringing forth Applied Physiology. He introduced formatting  - a way to monitor for specific physiological functions showing stress in the body, mind, spirit, energy. These are accessed through a language of combinations of acupoints of the Chinese system and the finger modes of Beardall to 'tune in' to specific physiological and anatomical systems. His innovation changed kinesiology forever.

  • Neural Organization Technique, Developed by Dr. Carl Ferreri

Dr. Ferrera coalesced 40 years of experience in Chiropractic, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Cranio-Sacral Technique and Applied Kineseiololgy to develop a systems oriented approach to create harmony in posture and physical function and relative neurology. First you are balanced 'in the clear' and then your source of stress is introduced to uncover how that stress disturbs and disorganizes you both physically and in the nervous system. Your body is designed to be self healing, self regulating and self perpetuating. Physical or emotional stressors disturb these automatic functions. N.O.T. restores the balance for today and for life.

  • Brain Integration/Learning Enhancement Technique, Developed by Kathie Guhl, Charles Krebs

...when's the last time you found yourself in a stressful situation and couldn't think straight, couldn't focus, couldn't remember something or someone you knew you knew?

Mental activity can be seen as a "symphony of thought." Like the individual musical instruments in an orchestra, the different structures, pathways and functions of the brain have to be precisely timed, synchronized, in order to create beautiful music rather than a cacophony of confusion. The foundation of all high level performance and learning is integrated brain function. Brain Integration Learning Enhancement Acupressure Program re-establishes disrupted synchronization of brain activity where function has been impaired due to stress or was never fully developed in the first place. This dysfunction may be a Specific Learning Disorder, or, is often only situational...

This protocol accesses the exact subconscious and conscious structures, pathways and functions that block the processes so that full integration and performance can be reestablished. Since 1985, Charles Krebs has worked in conjunction with Clinical Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Neurologists and other health professionals to develop a very effective program to optimize mental performance and correct most learning problems so that you can tap into your full potential. LEAP is taught in ten countries around the world, and innovations continue to be added to the system as science continues to increase our understanding of the brain.

  • Neural Spiritual Integration, Developed by Peter McLellan

NSI work manifests changes on a more spiritual level of consciousness and energetic structure to create healing on all levels of being. Peter's extensive studies and practices in Applied Kinesiology, enhanced by his personal experience and studies in Transpersonal Medicine, gave birth to this body of work. NSI reflects and supports the journey of the individual, opening possibilities and potentials along your path, providing insight and guidance to a fuller understanding of your true self.
